Will Artificial Intelligence Be Illegal In Europe Next Year?

Artificial Intelligence is one of the major breakthrough technology in the field of innovation. To avail the benefits of this technology it is imperative that there should be some rules and codes in place for the right use of technology. With kind of attention which is being given to the Robotic science and Artificial Intelligence; initiatives are being put in place to guard the right use of this technology.

In Europe, the Parliament Legal Affairs Committee has recently tabled a report on civil laws rules on robotics. This initiative has come right in time when the uses of Artificial Intelligence in this region comes in question.

The report highlights the opportunities that are created by the use of robotics and Artificial Intelligence so that there is a strategic plan in place for a stronger presence and thoughtful investment in this technology.

The commission has long recognized the significance and the opportunities of Robotics and Artificial intelligence. In the time of Internet, all your actions are tracked such what kind of photos you post or the type of articles that you read everything is watched.

This kind of kind of behavior on online services raises one important question. The question is about facing Ideological confrontation especially in the European Union which is world’s single largest online market.

At the onset of GDPR implementation, the regulation has divided Europe into two different communities. One welcomes the need of policies for Data protection and transparency in the society and the other one shows concern at the forthcoming challenges that for instance quizzing about user consent and tackling the black box problem created due to Artificial Intelligence. This would eventually make it illegal with the kind of fines imposed such as 4 percent of the global turnover as reported.

The regulation of Data collection from the European Union citizens whether Big or small is only limited to companies which have headquarters based in EU, however, it extends to all those organizations that deals in Data of the EU citizens.

Another risk in Data handling is subjects that demand personal data transfer directly from the one user to another and that too in a machine based readable format without any hindrance. This will be almost like switching any mobile provider or changing any social network without any Data Loss. Companies like Facebook, Google are the Data mines and even the small size companies for that matter which deals in publics data sounds like a final nail on the coffin before the mass transfer of data of the users that plan to leave the company.

As mentioned in the GDPR Article 17, each and every subject will have the right to procure data from the controller of personal data if it concerns him or her without wasting any time the controller will have to furnish all the details pertaining to that user’s data. This will, on the other hand, affect the Tech companies who run on people’s data in the form of cookies and take advantage by running ads targeted to the specific group of people.
